Simple as they are, flooded lead-acid batteries come with a few downsides that have many RVers searching for an alternative. For one thing, they’re filled with highly corrosive acid and are prone to leaking if improperly stored. Here are some other reasons many RVers upgrade the dealer-supplied RV batteries:

While it’s true that lithium batteries have numerous advantages over lead-acid batteries, installing them usually requires replacing the OEM converter with a lithium-friendly converter. This is a significant additional expense that can be avoided by simply upgrading to either high-quality AGM lead-acid batteries or lead carbon batteries.

Instead of an electrolyte bath sloshing around inside an absorbent glass mat (AGM) lead-acid battery, the mat holds the electrolyte between the plates, letting the two make contact without excess fluid that can spill out.
