Are you looking for an RV that allows you to wake up surrounded by spacious luxury and beautiful views anywhere you like for as long as you want? The 2026 Grand Design RV Solitude 417KB could fit that bill. This model offer residential-style luxury, whether you’re thinking of extended stays or full-time RV life. In fact, this roomy fifth wheel could possibly even be the ultimate rig for couples looking for a destination RV. Its spacious interior is packed with luxurious features. There are residential-style appliances and even a built-in vacuum cleaner.
Ready to learn more? (Thought so.) Let’s get rolling with our review of the Solitude 417KB.
I rated the 2026 Grand Design RV Solitude 417KB a 9.6 out of 10. Scoring perfectly in nearly all categories, this fifth wheel teeters on the brink of apex fifth-wheel design. From the moment I stepped into the Solitude 417KB, I was a little stunned by its sophisticated residential ambience. It features a well-executed, open floorplan packed with impressive amenities. Altogether, the interior feels much more like a high-end beach condo than an RV. It’s an alchemy achieved in no small part by combining a thoughtful layout with lots of natural light through huge residential-style windows. Combine this with features like professional-grade kitchen appliances, a built-in vacuum, and sumptuous furniture, and you’ve got a perfect recipe for a supremely livable RV.
The bedroom at the front of the Solitude 417KB has definite wow! factor. It features a king bed, en suite bathroom, and impressive storage throughout. The 76-inch-by-80-inch bed in its own slide-out is outfitted with CPAP-ready shelves and charging ports, as well as what I like to call a built-in bookshelf. In addition to windows on both sides of the bed (that open to allow a gentle cross breeze effect while you sleep), there’s also a window over the bed that lets in plenty of natural light. The residential-style, padded headboard helps create a cozy and comfy nest for watching a show on the 32-inch LED smart TV before bed too.
Storage in this bedroom is nothing short of phenomenal. Beneath the bed, there’s a combination of drawers, open storage, and hidden storage. And across from the foot of the bed, there’s a bank of drawers and cabinets. (Not to mention a really cool window seat with a flip-up lid that would be ideal for storing shoes.) On top of all that, there is (yet more) secret storage under the tops of two of the dressers.
The walk-in closet and washer/dryer prepped closet are conveniently located in the spacious en suite that’s housed in the cap of the Solitude 417KB. The walk-in closet has a wealth of shelves and drawers, a built-in laundry hamper, and a nonslip rod that offers lots of hanging storage for shirts, dresses et cetera.
Overall, the bedroom in the Solitude 417KB offers everything one expects to find in a well-crafted luxury fifth wheel, plus a few additional surprises. In addition all that, up to four overnight guests can spend the night on the two queen trifold sofabeds in the living room.
The Solitude 417KB has two bathrooms: A full en suite bathroom and a half bath. (The latter is handy for guests — or when you just want to, you know, wash your hands.) The full bathroom is located at the front of the RV and has a massive spa-style shower that boasts a flip-down teak shower seat. But that doesn’t mean most people will need to sit down. There’s enough head room in this shower that anyone under 6 foot 7 inches should have no problems showering at their full height. Also worth noting here is that the Solitude 417KB has a tankless water heater and a big freshwater tank. (So, no one has to worry about running out of hot water in the shower.)
The toilet in the full bathroom is well-placed. It has lots of room around it. Behind the toilet, there’s a handy shelf that could be used to store toilet tissue or rolled up towels. The single sink vanity in this bathroom offers a stainless-steel sink and a high faucet surrounded by lots of room on solid-surface countertops. Beneath the vanity are drawers and cabinets with stainless-steel cups to help organize tools like blow dryers, curling irons, and things like that.
On the opposite wall, next to the shower, a linen cabinet provides ample storage for towels, linens, or anything else you’d like to put away neatly. I love that Grand Design RV provides towel/robe hooks in this bathroom. However, I’d love to see towel bars and a toilet paper holder here too. However, this is only one of the bathrooms in the Solitude 417KB. There’s also a half bath that’s more conveniently located in a more central location in the RV.
The half bath is smaller, but the toilet is just as comfortably placed as the one in the main bathroom. It would be a great guest bathroom because not only is it convenient to the living area, but there’s plenty of storage in the big medicine cabinet and drawers for guest toiletries. There’s generous storage for cleaning supplies under the sink.
Grand Design RV did put towel hooks in this bathroom. However, I felt that they should have included a hand towel ring and a toilet paper holder here too.
The living area in the Grand Design RV Solitude 417KB feels expansive, owing to parallel opposing slide-outs, residential-height ceilings, and natural light coming through loads of big windows. There’s room for the whole gang here. Two three-seater sofas face one another on either side of the entertainment center, plus there’s two comfy, reclining theater seats (with built-in charging ports) facing the 60-inch TV and oversized electric fireplace. The ambience here is very residential with wood-framed windows with premium roller shades to darken the room for movie nights.
However, as you know, one of the best parts about RVing is being outside. That said, when it’s nice out, it’s easy to extend the two big power awnings and set up your favorite camping chairs to create lots of sheltered living space outside.
Cooks will love the U-shaped kitchen in the Solitude 417KB. It offers all the necessities for preparing whatever gourmet treats you can dream up, including plenty of workspace on solid-surface countertops and professional-grade, residential-size appliances. There’s loads of storage space in the 16-cubic-foot, 12-volt, French-door refrigerator, and the big pull-out freezer. The four-burner stove and a full-size oven offer cooking and baking amenities for a complete festive dinner. There’s also a residential size microwave if you need to cook or warm something up in a hurry.
Looking out through a big window at the back is a big smart sink with all kinds of cool features designed to add convenience and efficiency. It offers a cup rinser, colander and veggie rinser, a cutting board insert, a built-in soap dispenser, and a pull-down spray faucet. This impressive kitchen also boasts a two-drawer pull-out pantry, as well as a butler’s pantry with adjustable shelves and a coffee bar. The butler’s pantry offers a small counter with a 110-volt outlet so the coffee machine, toaster, et cetera don’t create clutter on the kitchen counters.
The legless dinette in the passenger-side slide-out seats four diners on comfortable chairs. However, when you don’t need all four chairs, two of them fold for storage until they’re needed.
The Grand Design RV Solitude 417KB is clearly designed for year-round living. It offers everything necessary to live comfortably, no matter what the weather is doing outside. To start with, the Solitude 417KB’s privacy-tinted, dual-pane windows help to deflect the sun in the summer and keep cold air out in winter. In addition, the Solitude 417KB offers a robust insulation package that helps to keep interior temperatures comfortable even when it’s hot or cold out.
Cold-weather features include a 35,000-Btu furnace, heated holding tanks and a heated, enclosed underbelly that protects plumbing from freezing. Also, utilities and valve controls are housed in the heated passthrough storage bay.
When it’s hot outside, the inside of the Solitude 417KB should stay cool because it’s equipped with a total of 45,000 Btus of air conditioning that’s provided by three Stealth air conditioners. This proprietary air conditioning system is designed to operate quietly, quickly making the interior of the RV into a nice, cool oasis.
The Solitude 417KB offers a wealth of well-designed and generous storage throughout. There’s enough room in the passthrough storage bay for sports gear like golf clubs — in addition to camping chairs, inflatable paddleboards, and anything else you want to store. Inside this RV, there’s an equally impressive amount of storage space.
As you enter the 417B, there’s a wonderful hall closet, with hanging storage for jackets, shoes, and dog-walking supplies. I was very pleased to find the hose for a built-in vacuum system tucked inside this closet too! Nearby, there’s additional storage under the stairs, for sandals or other slip-on shoes for quick trips outside.
I’ve already told you about some of the storage in the kitchen area. However, this kitchen also has oodles of storage for food, cooking tools, dishes, and small appliances. (There’s even two drawers under the refrigerator. One is dedicated for pet dishes, and the other could be a handy spot to store pet food, and treats.)
After some notorious frame problems on previous models, Grand Design RV has done a lot to beef up its fifth wheel frames. The 2026 Grand Design Solitude 417KB now sits on a heavily reinforced Omega fifth wheel frame. This Lippert-components frame is made with thicker steel, more fasteners, larger-lag screws, and added adhesives, exceeding industry standards. Grand Design RVis so confident in their new frame design that they’re backing it with a five-year, transferable warranty.
The frame sits on a pair of heavy-duty, 8,000-pound axles with a MORryde 3000 suspension and Cooper tires. Tires are equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system. However, should that fail, damage is mitigated with metal wheel wells. (Plus, there’s a spare tire mounted under the chassis.)
The Solitude 417KB also boasts a MORryde pin box, tow assist, ABS, and a sway-mitigation system to help to create a smooth and stress-free towing experience. When you arrive at your destination, a backup camera and electric-leveling system help to simplify parking and setup too. Grand Design RV has done a lot to make towing the hefty Solitude 417KB as enjoyable as possible.
The Solitude 417KB was designed to keep you comfortable, even when you’re far away from crowded campgrounds. In light of that, Grand Design RV includes oversized holding tanks, a 330-watt solar panel, and a 50-amp charge controller. That means buyers will have to add lithium batteries and an inverter in order to run anything on the 120-volt power system. With that said, there’s a prepped lockable storage area under the cap for storing a generator as well as house batteries.
There’s enough here to keep most couples comfortable for a couple of weeks before they need to empty/fill tanks. It’s a fantastic setup for anyone who loves glamping, even when they’re boondocking.
Grand Design RV has really come through with superb build quality in the very elegant Solitude 417KB. Construction features include fully-laminated R11 walls, a triple-insulated R45 main floor, and an R40 thermal roof design protected by a tough, TPO membrane. Baggage doors are insulated with 1.5 inches of insulation, which is above the industry standard. At the back of the Solitude 417KB, a built-in ladder offers easy access to the roof. The interior reveals elegant design, meticulous craftsmanship, and quality building materials. It all adds up to an RV that should be problem-free through many years of full-time use.
The 2026 Grand Design Solitude 417KB is a true home on wheels that dishes out a lot of luxury for its hefty price tag. The fact that it’s a well-built all-weather fifth wheel that’s designed for comfortable extended off-grid RVing suggests it will get a lot of use. As Grand Design RV’s flagship model, this Solitude’s build quality and amenities are second to none. Overall, the Grand Design RV Solitude 417KB offers outstanding value compared to other RVs in its class.
Whether you’re looking for a luxurious couple camper for full-time RV living or as a destination trailer, the Grand Design RV Solitude 417KB packs a lot of luxury and value. This beautiful fifth wheel is chock full of sumptuous amenities, features, and conveniences that would make it a very comfortable home on wheels. The only drawback here is that its size could be a challenge to navigate around some rest areas and campground roads. That said, road trips will require pre-planning to find campsites that are big enough for this fifth wheel. Not only that, but you’ll definitely need towing experience and a 1 ton dually (or better) to tow it.
