4 Super C Models with Monster Towing Capacity
Curious about which motorhomes are the best to tow a serious load? Well, you’re in luck. Today, we look at four Super C motorhomes that have tremendous towing capacity. How much? In many cases, trailers up to 20,000 pounds!
A lot of owners buy these because they’re hauling race cars, horses, or other types of gear that are heavy. And many of these floorplans are available to accommodate bigger collections of humans in the front. (Like a race team or members of the polo club.)
As an added bonus — and perhaps surprisingly — all of these Super Cs are easy to drive, even with all that towing capability.
First! What Is a Super C?
The short answer? A Super C is a motorhome based on a high-capacity commercial chassis that offers elevated levels of towing and weight-handling ability. (We have a more detailed breakdown for those in search of the longer answer as well.) Typically, the front of Super Cs look like a commercial truck or larger pickup truck with the back being built by a motorhome manufacturer and offering all the comforts of a higher-end RV. These tend to be more upscale offerings. So, you’ll find premium build and appointments.
There are also some Super C models in our selection here that offer four-wheel-drive, enabling them to navigate more challenging driving environments. All the Super C models in our selection feature diesel engines for their ability to offer higher torque, the twisting force that can produce the power to move something like this with a heavy trailer in tow.
All the Super Cs in our collection are rated to tow at least 12,000 pounds, with some able to handle up to 20,000 pounds. So, let’s get to it!

Grand Design RV Lineage 31ZW
While you might be surprised to find that Grand Design RV is now building motorized RVs (and even more surprised to find a Super C in the line), the company has taken the approach of looking at the market and then doing best-in-class features and design elements all over.
From the air conditioning system to lighting to upgrades to ride and handling, the Lineage 31ZW is a home run at first bat. In other words, they nailed it.
One of the pieces of the puzzle is the suspension, which was modified from the standard factory Ford pieces with Fox components, which are adjustable at all corners. The idea is to optimize comfort or ride settings based on the job the rig is asked to perform at the time. This also features full four-wheel-drive to make getting into and out of a variety of situations an easier task.

Jayco Seneca XT 35L
We got to see the Seneca XT 35L last year at Jayco, and the attention to detail in that rig was impressive. Coming in based on Ford’s F600 platform, the Seneca XT 35L gives you a gross combined weight (truck and trailer) of 34,000 pounds. This RV really makes sense for those towing larger boats, car haulers, or horse trailers. And the upgraded four-wheel-drive features in this rig support those uses as well.
Jayco has dialed in a better ride and handling package in the form of their J-Ride. Jayco’s J-Ride system improves ride and handling by upgrading suspension and handling pieces. It also adds dampening in the steering system. This improves both comfort and control in this RV. Handling is a common complaint in RVs, and Jayco’s improvements go a long way toward correcting this. The steering dampener, for example, reduces the amount of corrections you have to make while driving, which makes for a more relaxed journey.

Dynamax DX3
The Dynamax DX3 is a staple in the Super C world. This truck-based motorhome features a chassis by Freightliner and is powered by a Cummins L9 turbodiesel engine that produces over 1,000 foot-pounds of torque. Along with the truck, there are truck stop amenities like a C-brake by Jacobs and air brakes that feature anti-lock technology.
There are five models of the DX3 chassis, all with the same 20,000-pound trailer hitch.

Thor Pasadena 38XL
We got to tour the Thor Motor Coach Pasadena 38XL last year, and it was a beautifully open and spacious-feeling motorhome. Part of that was a huge over-cab bunk area that adults could easily sit up in. We were also impressed by the attention to detail put into this rig by a team of designers who clearly understand the RV lifestyle.
This award-winning floorplan features a king-size bed with a tilt mechanism and theater seats. Plus, there’s a dinette with that has seat belts for four passengers. And in addition to those things, there’s also a stackable washer and dryer. (You know, for laundering all those team uniforms.)
The passenger-side slide room has a space that can either be bunks suitable for adults or those bunks can fold up, and now you have one heck of a closet space. There are also two bathrooms in here. (One for the team, one for the champion and their spouse.)
