I purchased this coach 1.5 years ago. It had been stored in a headed garage new by the original owner. They put 64K miles on it in 21 years It now has 73600 miles . We are moving up to a diesel pusher as our plans have changed to traveling full time . The 1996 Chinook is the last year they used the 460 Ford V8 Stock exhaust has a nice rumble . More torgue (440 Ft/lbs) than the V10 that replaced it in 1997 . It gets an honest 10MPG running 65-70. It will run 75-80 and get 9.8. See the picture in the collection of the Chinook Concourse that set the land speed record . It was marketed as "the sportscar of motorhomes". This a high end ( 100K new ) smaller RV with no compromise in quality . Flexsteel furniture , Corian Counters , Solid Oak cabinets. 13,500 AC unit , dash AC will freeze you out . 4000 watt onan generator Fridge/Microwave/TV/VCR/Stereo . All original . I've upgraded the ceiling fan to a remote controlled, rain sensing , variable speed , top of the line fantastic fan. Solar panel setup . The exterior is Gel coated like a boat , then the exterior stripes were painted on, then 4 coats of clear coat. Its stunning. It looks as new, has never been in an accident and you will get comments from everyone that sees it . Its a conversation piece and they don't make them like this anymore .. But .. if you've been shopping Chinooks.. you know that. This RV body is made of one piece of fiberglass that has spray foam insulation in the inside. Its built like a boat. External fixtures are all stainless, chrome , and aluminum. The awning as new and in perfect condition . The generator has 16 hours on it and starts instantly 27 gallons of propane 40 gallons of water , inside the RV , under the couch. Heated black and gray holding tanks. The original owner to added copper coils around the water heater to heats up 6 gallons of water to engine temperature . Having nice hot water to shower and wash dishes when you stop is a blessing and you will not find another unit with this feature . GVWR 10,700 GCWR 18,500 .. We towed a 1800lb aluminum trailer , you can't feel it back there . Very powerfull 1 ton ford dually truck chassis. The tires have about 12K miles on them and are in perfect condition . We have changed the oil twice in 10 miles at Ford Dealerships on our travels . it goes right inside a 10 foot garage door and its not too big for a ford dealer to work on .. Its a mechanically simple unit. This is huge .. If you are thinking about buying a diesel powered van.... start thinking about expensive repairs, parts from Germany , and very expensive oil changes DEF fluid , particulate filters, EPA mandated emissions stuff that goes bad. Then think again and buy this Chinook. The interior appointments are negotiable . Its road ready. I'd drive it across the country today.
