Grand Design RV was started in 2011 by three men who have 30 years of combined experience in the RV industry. Don Clark, Ron Fenech, and Bill Fenech had a goal creating industry leading vehicles of quality and improving the customer RV experience before, during, and after the sale. The company is located in Indiana and continues to grow their facilities to include more space for after build testing before delivery to consumer.
In six years, Grand Design RV has become the third largest producer of travel trailers and fifth wheel. They are the fastest growing company of recreational vehicles. In February 2018 they reached a major milestone of selling their 50,000 unit. 1,600 team members are focused on quality, not quantity. One big item that sets Grand Design apart from others is that they will only work with one dealer in each market. This allows them to focus on the relationship there. In addition to this, Grand Design does not clone any of their products. They only have one brand per segment to focus on perfecting travel trailers, fifth wheel, and toy haulers.
Grand Design RV have developed industry first initiatives. Their quality assurance program has set the bar thanks to multiple Quality Circle awards. Once their vehicles are constructed they go through an initial quality inspection. This is not the final step for Grand Design. From here, the unit is sent to a dedicated PDI centerwhere they perform a meticulous point-by-point inspection. This step costs the company the most, but they consider it a must and required to make a unit "Grand Design great". It is at this point that the vehicle will be sent to the dealer to be delivered to the customer.
Grand Design has a lot of consumer extras available for their customers. There are owners forums which are run by others, blogs, and a major social media presence to assist new, current, and long time customers. In addition to this, they have a GDRV4LIFE area where they feature advice, trip ideas, rally events, and more.
The Grand Design RV brands include the Transcend, Imagine, Reflection, Solitude, and Momentum. Grand Design introduced the Momentum G Class to their toy hauler line to expand on the lighter line that doesn't compromise on quality, innovation, and function.
