GMC RVs Information:
In 1972, the well-known automobile manufacturer General Motors Company began its own foray into the recreational vehicle industry with the addition of GMC RVs to their product line. These Class A motorhomes were produced in the Gemini Corporation plant that also produced Travco motor homes. The company ceased production of their luxury motorhome line in 1978, choosing instead to refocus their resources and efforts into expanding and developing their truck line and downsizing to a lighter duty driveline. Though the GMC RV line was only produced for six years, they were highly sought after as they contained some of the most innovative features of their time. One of the most popular features of GMC RVs is the large windows that were a novelty in the industry and made the RVs so very popular. Owners also enjoyed many of the features that were popular in GMC’s luxury line of vehicles, including cruise control, air conditioning, 8-track sound systems and other technological marvels of the era. The quality of the GMC RVs is apparent, as many of these relics of the 1970s are still on the road today and are in high demand by those who are in the market for vintage recreational vehicles. Some experts claim that more than half of the GMC RVs have survived nearly a half a century and are still providing enjoyment and transportation to their owners. The vintage RV community is loyal to these classic brands because of the durability of the products that were produced in these earlier eras. General Motors Corporation continues its commitment to excellence today through its multiple vehicle brands that remain, even though their GMC RVs have not been produced in several decades. Buick, Chevrolet, Holden, Hummer, Saturn, Pontiac, and Opel are some of the recognizable names that are associated under the General Motors Corporation umbrella.
