For under $200 the Blue Ox Adventurer Tow Bar is also good option for those needing Class III pulling power. The adjustable legs fold together for easy storage and the entire package weighs only around 35 pounds. Roadmaster's Sterling All-Terrain is another tow bar that weighs about that much and delivers a hefty 6,000 pound capacity. The motorhome-mounted tow bar sports built-in cable and electrical wiring channel guides, to eliminate the need for wrapping while keeping cables and wires neatly stored. The Sterling also features telescopic inner arms that center themselves and automatically lock into place as the towing vehicle pulls away, plus a storage locking mechanism for keeping the bar securely positioned when not in use.
But the biggest selling feature on the Sterling is Roadmaster's patented All Terrain Freedom Latch, which makes it possible to release the tow bar at any angle regardless of the level or degree of the bind. With the unique unlatching feature it is easy to unhitch the trailer regardless of how hard the angle may be or how rough the ground is underneath the rig. Plus, Roadmaster uses NASA-approved Finite Elemental Analysis to computer-test for stress points in product designs and remove them for improved safety and greater structural integrity.
One of the most exciting new towing products is the trademarked Tandem Tow, with three different models that range from about $2,500 to $4,500, depending upon how much weight you want to pull. The smartly designed trailer enables RV users to transport their automobile with extra room on the front of the trailer for a golf cart, ATV, or a pair of beefy motorcycles. All of the Tandem Tow trailers can be ordered in custom colors to match motor homes, and they can be outfitted with optional electric or hydraulic surge brakes.
Speaking of braking, every towing system should include a solidly reliable set of safety cables just in case things go awry on the road. So last but not least, be sure to use approved safety cables and pick those that are rated in the same class as the tow bar. You'll have protection against catastrophic accidents as well as from stiff fines from the highway patrol.
